Wouldn't 1803's be a rarer find? I have been tracking Altec stuff on ebay for years, and don't ever recall seeing even one. I did just recently pick of a nice pair of 1203's - they're huge! Can't wait to add them to my 210's. I recall only seeing one other pair of 1203's before, and they were tar filled.

With reference to the beaming "problems" of the multicellular horns at higher frequencies:
This "problem" was propagated by Leo Baranek in his book, Acoustics.
Sr. John K. Hilliard, then of the LTV/LING/Altec Western Research Center in Anaheim, did the measurements for Leo, and he (Hilliard) said that, in order to even be able to MEASURE what became hooted and hollered about ("multicell's beam!"), Hilliard had to slow the table in the anechoic chamber at Altec all the way down AND speed the recording pen speed all the the way UP.
In other words, you can't really hear it unless you walking around listening to pink noise being played through them.

Personally, I think the guy selling those cabinets is dreaming. He turned down $687 for empty boxes.
This is about the third time he's tried to sell them (not counting the cancelled listing),you'd think he'd get the idea. Nobody wants to pay $1000 bucks for boxes that aren't as good as 210's.
I remember an old farmer who wouldn't sell me a classic car sitting rusting in his field. He wanted triple what it was worth. It sat till he died, by which time it was in such bad shape it had to be junked.
Some people are just so greedy as to shoot themselves in the foot.

With shipping, these were over $3,000 for the pair. Another pair sold for over $3,100 not long ago. As I said, I'd gladly pay $1,000 for a pair. My pockets aren't deep enough to pay $3,000 for a pair of horns. I'll make do with a pair of MR-94-B's with dual throats.
I'd like to put MR-94-B's on top of my stacked 817's. I think that would be better than the stacking two MR-94-8's as shown in the picture below. I'm thinking of going two way with 288-G drivers loaded with GPA Pascalite 399 diaphragms for most applications. I don't have enough MR902-HF's to do it as Stan Miller (Stanal Sound) intended (1) 291 or 288 with (4) MR902-HF per 817.
